SAP BTP CPI helps different business systems talk to each other. In this SAP BTP CPI training, you learn to build integration flows, use adapters and mappings, and get ready for the official SAP Certified Integration Developer exam.
SAP BTP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) is SAP’s cloud tool for connecting business systems. Today SAP calls it Cloud Integration, and it is part of SAP Integration Suite on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). It moves data from one system to another and changes the data format on the way. SAP BTP CPI training teaches you to build integration flows (iFlows), use adapters and mappings, and monitor messages. It also prepares you for the C_CPI exam, a 3-hour hands-on assessment with a 90% pass score.
| Full name | SAP Cloud Integration (often called SAP CPI or SAP BTP CPI), part of SAP Integration Suite |
|---|---|
| What it does | Connects SAP and non-SAP systems, and changes message formats such as XML and JSON |
| What you learn | iFlows, adapters, message mapping, Groovy scripts, API Management, Event Mesh and monitoring |
| Certification | SAP Certified – Integration Developer (C_CPI): 3 hours, 1 hands-on activity, 90% to pass |
| Official learning path | SAP Learning journey “Developing with SAP Integration Suite” |
| Why now | SAP PI/PO mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027, so many companies are moving to Integration Suite |
| Who it suits | SAP PI/PO consultants, ABAP developers, Java or web developers, and IT freshers |
Think of SAP BTP CPI as a translator at a busy station. One system speaks one language, and another system speaks a different one. CPI listens to the first system, changes the message into the right language, and passes it to the second system. As a result, both systems understand each other.
1. A message arrivesFor example, a new sales order leaves SAP S/4HANA.
2. CPI changes itCPI maps the fields and turns XML into JSON.
3. It reaches the targetThe order lands safely in a cloud or partner app.
The path a message takes is called an integration flow, or iFlow. An SAP CPI developer designs these iFlows, tests them and watches them run.
Map fields and turn XML, JSON or flat files into the format the target system needs.
Use adapters such as HTTP, OData, SOAP, IDoc and SFTP to reach almost any system.
Moves from SAP PI/PO to the cloud create steady work for CPI developers.
Pick a target system, switch steps on or off, and press Run iFlow. Watch the message travel, change shape and show up in the monitor. Try turning Message mapping off to see what a failed message looks like.
Press Run iFlow
A simple learning demo that runs in your browser. In class, you build real iFlows in SAP Integration Suite.
Many companies still run an older SAP tool called SAP PI/PO for integration. SAP has set an end date for its main support. So these companies are moving their interfaces to SAP Integration Suite, and they need people who know Cloud Integration.
Dates as published by SAP and summarised by SAP training partners in October 2026. Always check SAP’s latest notes.
SAP Integration Suite is a box of integration tools on SAP BTP. Cloud Integration (CPI) is the main one, but a good integration developer knows the others too. Tap each tool to see what it does.
| Point | SAP PI/PO | SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | On the company’s own servers | In the cloud, on SAP BTP |
| Updates | The company installs upgrades | SAP updates it regularly |
| Prebuilt content | Limited | Thousands of ready integrations on SAP Business Accelerator Hub |
| Main support | Mainstream maintenance ends 31 Dec 2027 | SAP’s strategic integration tool |
| Skills you reuse | Mapping, adapters and integration patterns carry over, so PI/PO experts can move to CPI faster | |
The course follows the topics in SAP’s official learning journey, “Developing with SAP Integration Suite”. First you learn the ideas, then you practise each one hands-on.
See SAP’s official SAP Certified Integration Developer page for the exact exam topics.
C_CPI is SAP’s certification for integration developers. It is not a long multiple-choice test anymore. Instead, you log in to a real system and complete one task. Because the pass mark is very high, careful hands-on practice matters most.
Source: SAP Learning. You need an SAP certification subscription with exam attempts.
You work inside a real, ready-made SAP system, not on paper.
You need 90% on a single activity, so every step counts.
SAP’s learning journey “Developing with SAP Integration Suite” is the main study guide.
Move your skills to the cloud before PI/PO support ends.
Add integration to your skills and work on full SAP projects.
Use your API, XML and JSON know-how in the SAP world.

SAP BTP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) is SAP’s cloud service for connecting systems. SAP now calls it Cloud Integration, and it is part of SAP Integration Suite on SAP Business Technology Platform. It moves data between systems and changes its format on the way.
Not exactly. SAP Integration Suite is the full set of integration tools. Cloud Integration (CPI) is one part of it. The suite also includes API Management, Event Mesh, Integration Advisor and Open Connectors.
An iFlow, or integration flow, is the path a message follows in SAP CPI. It starts at a sender system, goes through steps such as mapping and routing, and ends at a receiver system.
Yes. SAP PI/PO mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027, so many companies are moving their interfaces to SAP Integration Suite. That creates steady demand for people who can build and support CPI integrations.
You don’t need deep coding to start. Most iFlow work uses visual tools. Basic knowledge of XML, JSON and simple scripting helps, and you learn Groovy basics in the course.
The SAP Certified – Integration Developer (C_CPI) exam is a 3-hour, system-based assessment with one hands-on activity. You need 90% to pass.
SAP PI/PO runs on a company’s own servers. SAP CPI runs in the cloud on SAP BTP and gets regular updates from SAP. Many integration skills, such as mapping and adapters, carry over from PI/PO to CPI.
You learn common adapters such as HTTP, OData, SOAP, IDoc and SFTP. These let SAP CPI connect to SAP systems, cloud apps and file servers.
It depends on your background. People with SAP PI/PO or API experience learn faster. Freshers need more practice time. Ask our counsellor for the current course duration and batch dates.
